The house is located in a residential area of the city of Guadalajara that is peculiar for its rolling hills, as well as for several densely wooded public parks. Adjacent to one of these parks is a private condominium made up of three houses, of which our project is the one that enjoys the best views and is surrounded by gardens. Introverted with respect to its neighbors, it exploits its privileged position of contiguity to the landscape. The volumetry is staggered in such a way that it does not block the perspectives from the other houses, but also helps to reduce the scale of the enormous rear adjoining wall.
As if it were the case of a precious musical instrument, the house is a robust envelope that develops around the position of a majestic piano. The main spaces are related to both the central patio and the surrounding gardens, either for functional relationships, or for comfort issues given the benevolent climate of Guadalajara. The main program is resolved on the ground floor for a couple of older adults. On the other hand, natural light and ventilation are achieved for all spaces, as well as permanent views of the park.
The orthogonality of the plan is opposed by the section with its different interior reliefs of the roofs in successive variations of scale, intimacy and hierarchy of spaces. An honest materiality has been intended, both in its construction systems and in its finishes. The foundation is a large concrete box/basement, while the apparent white concrete structure with wooden stave formwork becomes skin and appearance. For the roofs, white clay brick has been used for the vaults and purple pink for the beams and flooring. A single stone pavement unifies all the social spaces and circulations.
