The couple, who work for foreign-owned companies, bought land in a quiet residential area and wanted to build a house that would coexist with the husband’s collection of contemporary art objects and beloved cars.

The interior space of the L-shape plan, which is open and filled with natural light, is arranged with the courtyard in the center, contrasting with the appearance of the exterior using fair-faced concrete and bronze glass on opposite sides. It is open and filled with natural light. In the basement with comfortable light coming from the dry area connected to the courtyard, I arranged the daughter’s room, and the second living room where the family can relax as if there were in a café or library.

I arranged a piloti garage for two cars, the main bedroom, and storage on the first floor and a formal LDK and bathroom where they can entertain guests on the second floor. It was carefully designed so that all rooms faced the courtyard, yet they could maintain privacy. The interior of the LDK is arranged in chic colors of gray and beige with modern Italian furniture, in addition to the gloss coated kitchen and built-in furniture. The vivid colored art pieces of Mika Ninagawa stimulate the space, and the works and interior take advantage of each other.

A symbol tree seen from the picture window becomes borrowed scenery and scattered light coming from the high side light and top light create delicate fluctuations in the world of gray. This residential space is like a small art gallery in the city and works as a device between everyday life and extraordinary life while mixed with nature, four seasons, and the sense of beauty created by human beings.
